As soon as everything at the hospital is taken care of, he should revert back.
This-- [He pauses.] It wasn't my doing. Mammon decided who would go... I never wanted this monstrosity in Penance, I assure you. None of you needed-- modification.
[Caleb hums a little bit. He puts down some of the general research he's been doing, bits and pieces on the Veiled Order and some of the things he's heard from others. It's not much, but it's something.]
Is there anything we can do to assure it doesn't happen again? For some, at least. I must assume the arcane or spiritual weight of protection for the entire community is...suboptimal for the results.
Keeping Mammon entertained seems a good tactic. [But one they clearly failed at. He huffs out a sigh.]
There are protections we can put in place, I suppose. But Mammon is a lord, like myself. He has... a certain sway. We can't do anything that would trigger ill-relations.
[Caleb nods, understanding. Of course, there's no sense in upsetting anyone else of authority, causing issues, potentially souring relations. They've all got enough to deal with without going to war with a neighboring lord.
But...]
Surely Lord Mammon won't miss one or two people. If we can assure their safety, with any permanence. I am sure it's a great price but I would bear it.
[Despite Lucifer's conviviality, Caleb couldn't help but feeling like a child, standing in front of his old teacher and being scrutinized for the smallest things.]
I need to know what the price of protection is. I understand the...the concept of this place. We are, all of us, going to be subject to tortures. Most of us are not leaving. But if I can do anything at all to lessen certain treatments, certain actions--if I can protect certain people.
[He steels himself for it, looking at the meager material offerings he has and knowing this may come from himself, rather than what he has to offer.]
I need to know that Essek and Mollymauk, especially, will be safe from the worst of it. No more of that...hospital.
The hospital was not my idea -- not what it became.
[He gives a sigh, shrugging his shoulders.]
I can't promise you they'll be exempt. All of you will have to face punishment, as God deems fit, darling. But as long as you're willing to work for me, I'll do what I can.
No, of course not, Sir. I understand. And, of course, I will continue to do my best to serve you.
[Caleb looks over at the things he brought, notes on the Veiled Order and their attempts to reach out, some of the plants he'd managed to grow. It wasn't much, but it was something.]

[He arches a brow, tilting his head curiously.]

Thank you.
